"Garden" Chairs!

July’s Tip: "Garden" Chairs!
Here’s a quick and easy way to create an original and unique patio planter!

Take an old chair and cut a hole in the seat of the chair large enough for you to fit a plant pot in, but small enough that the pot will sit in the hole snugly and not fall through.

Prime the chair and plant pot with a bonder/primer/sealer followed by any colour of latex paint. If you want an antique/aged effect, paint with copper metallic paint then add light green and blue paint (wet on wet) using a brush. Soften with a rag and the result will be a copper verdigris finish. Seal with an exterior oil varnish to protect the finish.

Next, purchase either fresh moss from a garden center or dry moss from a craft store. Break the moss into pieces and glue into the nooks and crannies of the chair frame to give it an aged, outdoor look. Add some sparkle by gluing dragonflies to the planter and chair frame – look for fun and different embellishments at your local dollar store.

Lastly, but most importantly, add your plant pot of colourful annuals and you’ve created a whimsical art and conversation piece for your garden. Show it off and let everyone know it’s your original masterpiece!
