Spruce Up for Spring:
Bathrooms and Laundry Rooms
Spring
is finally underway - time to wash away the remnants of winter,
inside and outside your home.
Since bath and laundry rooms are
in constant use throughout the year, Spring is a great time
to assess the condition of tile, grout, caulking and sealant
to ensure these spaces stay clean and water tight.
Begin with a thorough cleaning. Then, inspect
the sealant around the bathtub and/or shower, sinks and toilet.
Where sealant has worn away or mildew has begun to appear,
scrape away the damaged area with a Caulk Away removal tool.
Clean the surface with a Dynamic mini nylon wire brush to
remove any remaining loose sealant. Then, apply a bead of
Dynamic 100% silicone sealant and smooth it with a Caulk Rite
application tool to match the existing sealant line.
Next, inspect window frames for areas where
caulking may have shrunk and pulled away from surfaces. This
is not only unattractive but creates gaps that outside air
can easily penetrate, resulting in heat loss or gain as outside
temperatures fluctuate. If the caulking is badly worn, dirty
or damaged, you may want to replace it entirely. However,
if the damaged areas are small, simply refill the gaps after
removing any failing strips. Choose Urethane Acrylic Caulk
by Dynamic for this job – it’s easy to apply,
cleans up with water, won’t shrink or crack and is guaranteed
for 50 years!
Ceramic tile floors are popular in today’s
homes because of the beautiful surfaces they create underfoot.
Unfortunately, the grout that holds the tiles in place can
be a magnet for dirt, dust and stains! Start by cleaning tile
and grout using Dynamic Tile and Grout cleaner. If you want
bright white grout lines, you can apply Dynamic Grout Restorer
to give you a very durable, clean looking finish very quickly
and easily. Simply apply the product with a damp sponge. If
you have another color of grout in mind, reapply new grout
as directed and seal with Dynamic Silicone Sealer.
Porcelain sinks and tiles can become chipped
and cracked with years of use, but you can make these look
new again using Dynamic porcelain repair. Begin by washing
the sink, tub, or tile thoroughly using TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate)
to eliminate soap or greasy residue. Rinse thoroughly with
clean water and dry completely with a soft cloth. Then apply
the porcelain repair and smooth over the repaired area with
a brush till you get the smooth finish you desire. Leave to
dry for a day or so to allow for proper set up. Depending
on the size of the chip, you may need to do the repair in
two stages to build up the repaired area to match the original
surface.
Now that you’ve cleaned and
restored the hard surfaces in your bath and laundry rooms,
you’re ready to tackle your next Spring project!
