Ready, Set… SELL!

Summer is the season many people think of selling or buying a home. If you’d like to sell yours, getting the best price really does depend on more than just “location, location, location”. The condition of your home can have a significant impact on its final selling price, and it starts before your prospective buyer even reaches the front door! Here are some great ways to ready your home for selling (or just give it a fresh look and feel!):

  • Stand back and look at your home with the critical eye of a buyer – their first impression is critical. You’ll likely notice things you’ve gotten use to looking at – a scuffed up front door, dirty siding… small things, perhaps, but they can be all it takes to turn off a buyer.

Ensure your lawn and flower beds are neat and shrubs are trimmed – mulching flowerbeds and planting bright annuals in them creates an instant welcome. Pressure-wash siding and clean windows, inside and out. Give a faded asphalt driveway a fresh coat of sealer, and clean concrete with a pressure washer. (Check our last issue for driveway cleaning/sealing How to’s and great Dynamic products to help make the job easier and faster!)

  • Fresh paint is arguably the best thing you can give your home’s interior to make a buyer feel like they’d like to live there. Light, neutral colours have the broadest appeal, so this is a good time to play it safe. Choose good quality paint and pay attention to detail when preparing the walls – follow our Repainting Tips in the Tips and Tools section of the Dynamic website to get great looking results!

Finally, be sure that doors open without squeaking and windows open and close with ease. Be sure that light fixtures and wall switches work, too.

  • Bathrooms that are damp and dingy are, not surprisingly, a huge turn-off for prospective buyers. If the bathroom is damp and has no exhaust fan, have one installed. Be sure that taps and faucets are shiny and that they do not drip or run.

Now take a look at the tile. If you don’t like what you see, neither will your buyer! Don’t panic, though – just because the tile is old and dull doesn’t mean you need to replace it. Simply follow the Caring for Tiled Surfaces tips in our Tips and Tools Section – your tile will look like new in no time!

Happy house hunting – although now that your home is picture perfect, you may just want to stay a while...
