This
fabulous project shows how to transform an inexpensive plastic
flowerpot into a gorgeous garden urn. These urns will add
ambiance to your front entrance or back garden. Depending
on your décor they would be lovely in your living/dining
area or even in your bathroom packed with luscious towels
and fragrant soaps and bath oils. Imagine arriving at a summer
BBQ with this garden urn as a hostess thank you gift packed
with champagne or your favourite wine and fresh fruit.
Before you start:
It is important that you clean your surface with TSP to degrease. Note: Allow project to dry before starting each new step.
Step
1 Paint your plastic urn with Bullseye
1 2 3 by Zinsser. This primer/bonder/sealer will give
the plastic flowerpot tooth and provide a good surface
to paint on.
Step
2 Paint the entire project with Americana
Soft White Satin paint.
Step
3
Using Dynamic Venetian plaster packed into a cake decorating
bag or a tube of Dynamic Tub And Tile Sealant apply the
decorative raised motif garland around the top edge, sides
and bottom of the plastic urn. Allow this step to dry
overnight.
Step
4 To create an antique effect,
brush on Chestnut Americana water based wood stain over
the entire urn and into all the nooks and crannies and
wipe back using a lint free soft cloth. Dry brush the
entire urn with Walnut American water based wood stain
and wipe back until you achieve the look you want.
Step
5 Using a small amount of Americana
forest green acrylic paint, brush around the garland to
create a weathered green algae look and wipe back with
a lint free soft cloth. Paint the decorative raised motif
garland with Dynamic Paint Wizard brilliant Gold metallic
latex paint.
Step
6 Using Dynamic’s Victoriana
stencil, softly stipple the brilliant gold metallic latex
paint with a Dynamic stencil brush positioning the stencil
at center points above and below the center garland.
Step
7 With a small detail brush paint
jagged lines using Americana black acrylic paint to make
it appear as if there are cracks in the urn.
Step
8 With a very dry brush; gently antique
the urn using Chestnut Americana water based wood stain.
This step will “knock back” the gold, green
and black paint effect.
Step
9 Using a speckle tool or old toothbrush,
speckle with Walnut Americana water based wood stain.
Step
10 For interior use seal with a latex
varnish and for outside use seal with an exterior oil
varnish. We would recommend Old Masters Acrylic Urethane.
