Take Another Look at Stenciling!

A great quick way to add a unique look to your walls is by using stenciling. But unlike those projects you did in grade school, today's stenciling can transform a standard paint job into home-décor mastery!

Stenciling is done by applying paint to openings in a specific stencil pattern. You spray the underside of the stencil with adhesive and press it into place on the surface on which you want to place the image. Next, dab paint over the stencil openings. To achieve a traditionally painted look, start by using a craft or household paintbrush—the brush's small size will allow you to be precise in your efforts.

For an old-world, raised relief look, use Venetian plaster, drywall mud (plain) or drywall mud mixed with paint. Put the mixture over the stencil openings with a spatula, and then peel back the stencil sheet. You'll end up with an image that protrudes from the wall, adding a new dimension to the room.

For crisper edges, always use Dynamic laser cut stencils - their precise edges will prevent bleeding away from pattern. And, to have use of both hands while you work, try EdgeWise repositionable tape so you can reposition the stencil as you go.
