Stop Cold Drafts Before They Start
As Fall quickly approaches, it's a good time to prevent cold drafts, moisture build up and energy loss - indoors and out!
Get your home ready for colder weather by ensuring its doors and windows are properly sealed. Start by inspecting the interior door and window frames. An easy way to do this is to light a fireplace match or incense stick on a windy day and run it along the edge where the frame meets the window. Where the smoke flickers and dissipates, you've identified an area where the heat from your home will escape (and the cold air outside will penetrate).
Solving a draft problem is simple, with the right products and tools. Begin outside the door or window and remove any existing caulking with a Caulk Away tool. Once the area is clean you can re-caulk, using a Dynamic Dripless Caulking gun and our Dynamic 50 year silicone caulking.
Snip the end of the tube off at an angle and then set the tube in the caulking gun so that the angle faces exactly where you need the caulk to go. This makes the caulk easy to apply exactly where you want it. Apply the bead of caulk right into or onto the surface, not just close to it. Once the caulk has been applied properly, smooth it out to ensure a tight seal and a neat-looking result. The most common method is to wet your finger and run it along the bead at an angle, using even pressure all the way. Better still, get the same results without getting your hands dirty using a Dynamic Caulk Rite tool!
To winterize windows you are unlikely to open before Spring, caulk the inside of the window casement with a small bead of Dynamic 50 year clear silicone. When spring comes, simply pull the caulking away (you may have to use the Caulk Away tool) and you can open the window again for some welcome fresh air!
